Merry Christmas!

Hello friends!  I hope you are all having a wonderful Christmas season. I wanted to thank everyone for their support and wonderful comments I have received all year.  I hope these handouts are helping your young women (or anyone else!) gain a better understanding of the Gospel, and help them learn why they need a Savior in their lives. I have lots of fun plans for the new curriculum next year, and so look for that starting soon.

In the meantime, since I can't send everyone a Christmas card, I'll just post it here.  Merry Christmas from the Ribeiras!

I'm Back! And here is Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 32: Personal Purity through Self-discipline

Hello all my friends and sorry for the very long hiatus I have been taking.  Many things have contributed to my lack of updates, but mostly it was because I was fulfilling one of my lifelong dreams of cruising around the Mediterranean (I was right to dream about it, it was amazing!) and of course the holidays are coming up, which means lots of Christmas present and cards to do! With all this business, I find it harder to find the time to research the handouts I want to create, which is unfortunate because I LOVE designing and sharing them.

So again, what is the best way you can ensure you will have a handout?  Send me your suggestions for your upcoming lessons!  You can find all the information about that HERE.

Speaking of suggestions, thanks to Megan for her suggestion for this handout to go with YW Manual 1 Lesson 32:  Personal Purity through Self-discipline.  It is a quote located at the end of the lesson.  I think it is a wonderful quote, and these girls can never hear this enough.  If we teach them anything while they are in Young Women, let it be to listen to the Spirit.

Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 33: Avoiding Degrading Media Influences

I'm back tracking a bit, so bear with me :)

Here's a handout suggested by Becki.  I had different plans for this one, but time got ahead of me and this is what I ended up with.  Here is the handout for Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 33: Avoiding Degrading Media Influences.  It is a quote by Ezra Taft Benson, which I think is mentioned in the lesson.  It is very profound and true.  We need to teach ourselves, and our girls to always pray and yearn to have the spirit in our lives and recognize its presence, so when we encounter personal battles, trying experiences and temptations we can seek comfort and truth from God.

YW Lesson 36: The Importance of Truth in Living a Virtuous Life

Thanks to my sister Cami for helping out with this one!  I give you my handout for Young Woman Manual 1 Lesson 36: The Importance of Truth in Living a Virtuous Life.  It is the beginning word strip suggested in the lesson.  My sister is also talking about a personal story about mountains and faith, and there are lots of other good analogies with rocks and faith and what not :)

Young Women Cerfiticates of Recognition

Here are certificates of recognition for each of the values.  This was a request sent over from Erica, to have a little consistency with the theme & value posters.  Thanks for the suggestion, Erica!

Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 34: Worthy Thoughts

Hey friends.  I mentioned earlier that sending in ideas will give you a better chance of having your handouts ready in time for your lessons, as sometimes I just simply don't have the time to do the research.

A special thanks to Mari for sending in her idea for lesson 34, hopefully you all can find some use for it.
(I realized I have skipped a big chunk of lessons, but you can still submit your ideas for those as well.)

Here's the handout for Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 34: Worthy thoughts.  Enjoy!

Young Women Lesson 29: The Second Coming

Hello All-
Sorry for the serious delay again.  I was off on yet another trip, this time to Utah.

I was also experiencing some kind of crazy artist block on lesson 28, so unless someone submits their own idea that they want made, I'm just moving forward.

Here's Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 29: The second Coming handout.  It is the suggested scripture from the lesson.

A tribute to my brother.

I just wanted to take a minute to give a shout out to my mentor and big brother, Drew.

When I talk to people about how I learned to draw, I tell them it has been 24 years of practice!  And luckily I had an awesome teacher all along the way. Growing up, I saw my brother Drew drawing in his black sketchbooks with his red pencil, and it was like magic to me.  I thought it was absolutely amazing that I could request my favorite Disney Princess or cartoon character, and watch them appear before my eyes.

Drew was such a nice big brother and would sit with me at our big chalk board, giving me step by step instructions on drawing people.  He would give me sketching tips on our paper programs in church.  He would draw figure outlines and let me fill in the details.  I'm sure there were times when I was super annoying (he is 8 years older than me) but he was always very supportive of my artistic enthusiasm.

Through Drew, I was introduced to many key elements toward my artistic career.  He taught me to always carry a sketch book, to learn from my mistakes by using a pen, and later when working on his degree in Animation at BYU, came the fateful day when he introduced me to the program Photoshop.

I don't think I would have the passion for art I have today without Drew. Looking back on my life, it is full of days, sitting with my brother and sketching our favorite Harry Potter scenes while we read, giggling over some inside joke we drew, and bonding over one of our favorite past times. To this day, he is one of my best friends, and we still have a strong connection, especially through our love of art.

More recently, Drew married the love of his life, Julie.  I don't think I could have hand picked a better match for my brother.  Seriously, they are made for each other.  As an added bonus, Julie is also a very talented artist.  So, not only do they make a beautiful couple, but they also make beautiful artwork as well.

And lucky us, they have an art blog of their own! If you want to see some awesome artwork, head over penandpencilarts.blogspot.com.

Also, my brother is awesome because he look exactly like James Potter.  See?

Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 27: Scripture Study

Here is my handout for Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 27: Scripture Study. It is the 5 scripture study steps summarized from the recommended article, “Pondering Isn’t Preposterous” by Susan Hill. This would look nice printed on a  nice heavy paper or laminated as a book mark.  Perhaps the girls can hang it next to their bed or on their mirror to help them remember to study.

Primary Wristbands

My dear friend Lacie requested I make some wristbands that she could give to her primary kids to remind them and their parents about their upcoming assignments. This is what we came up with together.  Hopefully you can get some use out of them too.  There are 2 weeks worth per page, and you can choose the colored version, or the B&W, if the children feel so inclined to color them in. Enjoy!

Young Women Lesson 26: Testimony

Here's my handout for Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 26: Testimony.  This is taken from the scripture Alma 32:28, that they have you read at the beginning of the lesson.

Young Women Lesson 25: Sabbath Day

Here's a handout for Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 25: Sabbath Day. I liked the prompt asking about good Sunday activities. I made sure to add the point that these things are to draw us closer to the Savior, to show there is a reason for observing the Sabbath. I also think it is important to point out that most of our activities through out the week should fall into that category as well.

I'm back!

Hello friends,
Perhaps you may have noticed I haven't updated in over a month.  That is mostly because in the past month we have been doing things such as...

This summer has been amazingly busy, which I can't complain about because we have been having a lot of awesome fun. I have also been busy with commission work, and have gained some wonderful clients (check out updates on my portfolio too at liliribs.com)!

I apologize for my absence!  Things have calmed down quite a bit, and I'm excited to tell you I have been working really hard and have some new updates to post!

Thanks as always for all your support, and God bless you all with your efforts and diligence teaching the Gospel to the Young Women and everyone else.  I hope you are all having a great summer!
