Christmas Party Mocktails!

I'm lucky enough to live extremely close to my older sister (and by close, I mean we live in the same house.  I live in the basement apartment.  One of the best living arrangements ever... live-in, free babysitters, meal swaps, another closet of clothes...), and because of this, we like to come up with grandiose plans for fun things to do.

Here we are at last year's party.
We are hosting a Christmas party this year, and decided to make it an Ugly Sweater Mocktail party!  Because what better way to get into the season than by wearing tragic holiday fashions and drinking delicious, Mormon friendly drinks?  My sister went to Culinary school out here in DC, so she is a culinary master and party host extraordinaire.  So, we had to make lots of fun drinks and hors d'oeuvres!

Included in our drink selection are the basics; Sparkling Cider, Sherbet Punch, Festive Nog, and we even found a giant keg of rootbeer!  But the true star of the party is our "mocktails," which we made little instructions so people could mix their own drinks.

Here is our...

We had three options Pomegranate Mojitos, Grape-Appletinis, & Pina Coladas.

You can find the recipe for the Pomagranate Mojitos here.

Appletini recipe can be found here.

Pina Colada recipe is right here.

We also found awesome plastic wine and drink glasses at the dollar store in packages of 6.  It is a lot less stressful using plastic than worrying about lots of glasses perched dangerously on ledges.  Plus, they are the perfect size for our fun drinks!

Also, so we don't have a million unclaimed drinks floating around, we also designed some drink tags to tie onto the glasses, so people know exactly which drink is theirs. These are to be tied to the stem of the glass with some festive holiday ribbon.

So, these are for you to use as you please! Merry Christmas everyone!

Christmas Time!

Surely we will all have an opportunity to share a Christmas lesson in some form this season.  One of my favorite things to do at Christmas that we picked up from my husband's family is to write a letter to the Savior on Christmas Eve about what we want to give to Him each year.  They seal the letters up in envelopes (and decorate, if so desired) and put them in a stocking for safe keeping until next year, when you reopen your letter to see if you have made progress with your relationship with Christ.

Like the quote attached by Neal A. Maxwell, the only gift we have to give to the Lord is our hearts, which can be done in so many ways.  Through striving to apply to Atonement in our lives constantly, by giving service to others only to give the glory to God, even simply recognizing the blessings we have been given and expressing our gratitude in prayer to Him are just a few ways we can submit our will to God.

So, I would suggest to have your young women/children/whomever write a letter to the Savior about things they want to give him this year.  Perhaps they need to work on something that has been keeping the Spirit away, or they need to work on recognizing their individual worth as one of God's children.  There are so many ways we can give back to Him!

This is a great way to bring the focus back to the Lord during this season!  Merry Christmas all!

Just a little more about myself...

Creating these handouts has been such a great experience for me.  I have been able to ultimately grow spiritually from their creation (a lot of thought and research goes into each one of them) as well as increase my appreciation for design.

As a wife and mom at the age of 23, my greatest love is my family, but I am lucky enough that I can easily fit my love for design comfortably into my life.  I am just at the very beginning of my exciting journey as a designer!  Your support and appreciation for my designs have really been a great motivator and certainly helped jump start my future goals, so thank you all for that!

With that said, here's my little self promotion!

If you need help with design work of any kind, please contact me! I'll answer any questions you may have. I pride myself on a seriously fast turn around time, and a not to mention awesome prices.  But mostly I love helping other people's visions become a reality. I would be happy to have you as part of my awesome client base.

I do all varieties of design: Christmas cards, invites, custom illustrations, book covers, business cards, blog headers, posters, advertisements, wedding presents, basically anything that falls until the category of design.

Here is some of my work (note: unlike my handouts, these images ARE copyrighted, so please do not use them with out permission from me. Thanks!)

I also do photo editing and manipulations.

Logos are always a fun challenge.  When designing logos, I give you 3-5 different options to choose from!

I also do watercolor and hand drawn art.

Thanks for letting me show off a little bit!  Keep me in mind for your next project!  And keep coming back for more completely free handouts!

A recent indulgence...

Hey all-
As I love partaking in all things artistic and beautiful, I wanted to take a little time to tell you about my good friend Natalie's Cake Pops. Don't they look awesome?

In case you aren't aware what exactly cake pops are, just imagine cake and frosting rolled into a deliciously moist ball, covered in chocolate and decorated to look like tiny masterpieces.

I recently had the delicious pleasure of trying some out myself, and they were even more amazing than they look. It took everything in me not to eat them all myself as soon as they arrived. I had them shipped all the way to DC, and they arrived promptly and in perfect condition.
Not only does she do the cake pops, but also makes incredible cakes as well.  These cupcakes look like an illustration just popping off the page.

Did I mention she is very innovative as well?  Look at these cute missionary cake bites.

I found her cake pops so inspiring, I made my own illustrations of them, which I hope do them justice:

You should definitely check out her site, Nataliescakepops.blogspot.com to see more of her creations.  They are perfect for every occasion (or no occasion in particular, I just was craving me some cake pops!) and can custom made to order, and shipped right to your door.  Seriously, she can do some pretty crazy things with these cake pops. Check them out!

Young Women Lesson 42: Preparing for Change

This handout is for Young Women Manual 3 Lesson 42:  Preparing for Change

I used the referenced talk by President Uchtdorf, Your Happily Ever After,
(Just a little tip.  Click on the image to save the full version)
I liked the fairy tale analogy a little better than the butterfly, as I think the girls will relate a little more to that.  *Both handouts here are the same, just different layout.

Exciting news!  The "Once Upon a Time" illustration is now available for purchase!   Visit my society6.com shop for details.
