Father's Day Freebie!

My husband has always been root beer connoisseur. When ever we go somewhere that boasts their own recipe or brew, he will always put it to the test. Last father's day, I decided it was time to put HIM to the test with The Great Root Beer Taste Test! Because for some reason, I always associate root beer with dads.  Is that just me?  Or perhaps it is some subliminal association with the actual brand, Dad's.

I bought 6 different brands of root beer, put them in numbered dixie cups and then we rated them based on flavor, fizz, smell, and color, analyzing each one as we blindly tested them out.  We were very surprised by our results, preferring more generic brands over the century old, mountain-brewed flavors (EDIT: My husband says he remembers this completely differently, ha ha. I'll just say I speak for myself here). Although, being over here in the east coast we didn't have access to our time-tested favorite, Henry Weinhard's (I looked into buying some on amazon, but I wasn't prepared to pay $60+$25 shipping for a 6 pack when I know I could just stop by Winco and get it for $3. Sigh.) but I know if that had been a contender it definitely would have taken the cup!

Anyway, if you are looking for a fun activity for Father's Day that you and the kids will enjoy, try this out!  Here are the sheets we used for rating each root beer.  Be sure to properly label your root beers with the cups, so you don't lose track of the winner! We also printed and displayed the above poster to make it feel all official :) Enjoy!

 Happy almost Father's Day everyone!

Happy Birthday Penny!

Just a quick personal post!  My little baby girl turned 3 this past week, and since it was her 3rd birthday on 3-3-13, we thought it best to have a little party for her.  Since I consider her to be my greatest work of art, we had an art themed party complete with rainbow jell-o (boy, does that take FOREVER!) art palettes as plates with fruit of each color, lots of colorful candy, a pin-the-paint-on-the-palette game, and of course drawings and illustrations I have done of Penny displayed all around.  It was fun to have all our friends around to celebrate little Pen's birthday.

You can read all about the details here.

Every year I also make a tribute to the past year of Penny's life.  It's a fun little tradition, and a good way to keep track of all those little video clips you take through out the year.  Here's this year's edition.

Happy Birthday, Penny!

Handout for March: The Atonement of Jesus Christ

Hello again friends.  I have made a handout to go along with this month's topic in the new LDS Youth Curriculum "Come Follow Me."  It is a good catch-all quote for the Atonement.  I know there are lots of other wonderful quotes out there, and thank you all for submitting them to me!  And if you have a good one, feel free to submit it here!

This quote was taken from President Dieter F. Uchtdorf's little talk "Christ, Our Hope." It is a 4x6, and you can find four to a page on the PDF link.

March: The Atonement of Jesus Christ

Sorry for the delay, this little lady is about to turn three and I thought since her birthday is on 3-3-13 this year, I should do something a little special.  Hence, my planning time took over my design time and here we are.  But no worries, Pen's birthday is nearly ready to go, as are the March materials.  Happy birthday Pen, and happy March everyone!

March: The Atonement of Jesus Christ

Originally I used a simple heart to represent this month, then after some thought, I decided to add a little band-aid to a broken heart, because the Atonement is so much more than just our Savior's love for us.  It is the realization that we all are sinners, and would be broken and lost if not for our Him. This broken heart is to remind us that in order for the Atonement to work in our lives, we must humble ourselves and submit our broken hearts to the Lord for healing, and continue this process for the rest of our lives, thus drawing closer to him and solidifying the need for the Savior in each of our lives.  So hopefully that makes sense!
